1. 10 Vocabulary Words: * Exalted- (adj.) raised or elevated as in rank or character. * Anointed-(v.) to dedicate to the service of God. * Banal-(adj.) devoid freshness or originality. * Existential-(adj.) pertaining to existence. * Reparations-(n.) the making of amends for wrong or injury done. * Buoyantly-(adj.) tending to float in a flood. * Noncombatants-(n.) a person connected with a military force in some capacity other than that of a fighter. * Demagogues-(n.) a person, especially an orator or political leader, who gains power and popularity by arousing the emotions, passions, and prejudices of the people. * Incessant-(adj.) continuing without interruption. * Cerebral-(adj.) betraying or characterized by the use of the intellect rather than intuition or instinct. 2. The 60’s was obviously a rebellious time period for most Americans and many of them rebelled against “The System”. They did not agree with the way things were being done which would explain the “trust no one over 30” rule that was popular. The youth were the main peophat this was a time of eternal youth and not in a good way. They believe what began as American mischief matured into great destructiveness. They did not agree with the labels given to the black panthers who were looked at as political visionaries when they were in fact “ghetto thugs”. They also went on to say that this new age turned out to be dangerous Utopias “infected with banal dreams and totalitarian passions”.
