A Doll’s House will consist of a three-act play that will speak to the audience of women and children. It is about a girl named Nora Helmer who once secretly borrowed a large sum of money so that her husband could get well from a serious illness. She never told him of this loan and has been secretly paying it back in small installments. Her husband, Torvald, thinks her careless and childlike. Nils Krogstad is the person from whom Nora has borrowed her money. Torvald discovers that Nora has forged her father's name; he is ready to disclaim his wife even though she had done it for him. Later when all is solved, Nora sees that her husband is not worth her love and she leaves him. Through the power of set design the audience will feel like they are actually in the time period of the play and they will feel like they have a connection with the play because they will begin to question their lives and everything that is going on in the world. One may ask “Out of all the elements of theatre, why is set design the most important to the theatre world?” Well, the answer to that is very simple. A good set design in a play helps with the mood and atmosphere of the scene. A set designer helps with the director's vision and the style they want for the play. They also have to communicate with the costume department in order to keep the style thread flowing through the entire play. Without it the entire play is ruined and/or non-realistic because if the set of the play is supposed to be 1970s high school dance, the set designers know not to just have a disco ball hanging from the ceiling to complete the mood and atmosphere. A set for a 70s school dance consists of a disco ball, some flashing lights and some party streamers. That is why set design is very important to the theatre world. The element of set design will be used effectively in one of the scenes. More specifically, Act II, lines 505 to 642: “MAID (enters from the hall) Excuse me madam” to “Goodbye Mr. Helmer.
