Web 2.0 is a collection of information technology and applications, and the websites that use these technologies and applications. These particular web sites improve the user experience by encouraging social interaction, participation, as well as collaboration.
Web 2.0 has some advantages as well as some disadvantages. The major advantage of Web 2.0 technology is that information and or social content can be pulled and placed from different places and can be personalized to meet your business or organization’s needs. The second biggest advantage is communication. Communication long ago was mostly done by phone or the press. Nowadays, communication via email, web advertising, instant messaging and so on can be broadcast around the world with minimal cost to your organization and or business. The biggest disadvantage of Web 2.0 is the dependency of the Internet and the ability to make a connection. If your business or organization relies solely on this technology, and the network goes down or becomes un-available, this could put a big damper and how you conduct business. The second major disadvantage is that many of the web services that use Web 2.0 are offered for free meaning there is no cost to the organization or business. While this may sound really good, it could also mean that these services are not as protected as secured sites and leaves room for hackers to manipulate and or destroy the information you are looking for.
