Imagine getting paid every day to use Facebook and Twitter. Social media is revolutionizing the PR industry, and there has never been a better time to get involved. Public relations has come a long way since it’s beginnings in the early 1900’s. Ivy Lee and Edward Bernays were the founding fathers of the profession. If they could see what there simple trade has turned into they would be in awe. According to Lee, when he and Bernays died, public relations would die with them. I’m sure he would be very happy to see that wasn’t the case. In fact, quite the opposite happened, especially with the recent boom. This public relations boom is because of the exponential growth of the social media community. It has never been easier to reach the masses. With sites like Facebook and Twitter you can reach millions of people with a single click. Today’s youth is very proficient with social media. You can hardly go anywhere today without seeing somebodies head sucked into a phone or computer screen. Why not use the skills you have already developed to start a promising career? If social media isn’t your thing then there are many other areas of public relations that may suit you.
