Demonstrate a systematic and critical understanding of the concept of professionalism; the range of roles and responsibilities, both across the sector and in relation to own subject teaching and the impact of each. Actual It is this need to strive for professionalism that set up the two bodies that govern the teachers in the lifelong learning sector, in order to raise standards and develop the practitioner and prove competence. The two bodies are The Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) and Institute for Learning (IfL). The Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) has set a code of ethics or Professional Standards for teachers’ tutors and trainers in the lifelong learning sector. Their overarching professional standards; * Domain A: Professional values and practice * Domain B: Learning and teaching * Domain C: Specialist learning and teaching * Domain D: Planning for learning * Domain E: Assessment for learning * Domain F: Access and progression The LLUK standards include a general statement about the 'key purpose' of Teaching which links in to the term professionalism:
“Teachers in the lifelong learning sector value all learners individually and equally. They are committed to lifelong learning and professional development and strive for continuous improvement through reflective practice. The key purpose of the teacher is to create effective and stimulating opportunities for learning through high quality teaching that enables the development and progression of all learners.” (LLUK 2006:2)
Teacher tutors and trainers in the lifelong learning sector are required to join a professional body in the United Kingdom it is the Institute for Learning
