4 December 2014 Expressing unity through the Eucharist The Seven Sacraments are one of the many essential factors that is part of the Christian belief system. They are Baptism, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders, an Anointing of the sick. One of these important sacrament, which plays an important role in expressing the unity in all Christians, is Eucharist. By partaking the body and blood of Jesus Christ, all Christians are brought closer to God, therefore united.

The Eucharist is one of the important sacrament any Christian would come across their life. According to S.A Nigosian’s chapter on Christianity, in his book, World Religions: historical Approach, he states that by partaking the bread and wine, one is respecting the body and blood of Jesus Christ, and also understanding the unity this sacrament provides, by bringing all the Christians together. This is true, because, all Christians are obliged to participate in the Holy Communion. And the main part of this sacrament, is to consume the bread and wine, which represents Jesus’s body and blood. By doing this, all the Christians are coming together in oneness, and solidarity.

Eucharist also tends to be a remembrance for the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. By consuming the bread and wine, one is representing the Lord’s Supper every mass day. According to Dennis Edwin Smith’s book, From Symposium to Eucharist: The Banquet of Early Christian world, Eucharist is a sacrament that brings all the Christians together, but also brings them closer to the kingdom of God. By celebrating the Eucharist, with all the other Christians, God is uniting his people together, as another way of showing care and love.
