1.0 Introduction: The Woody 2000 project came up as a result of a mini boom in commercial construction activities and the intention of the management of Woody’s (real name Custom woodworking Company) to cash in on the opportunity by improving production efficiency by expanding their existing manufacturing space by 25%,including computer controlled automation, improving the facilities by adding air conditioning, a dust free paint / finishing shop with additional compressor capacity and lastly a renovation of the offices of the company president and vice presidents offices. The project management institute defines project management as “the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project (i) WBS Creation: This is the outline of the work to be done to complete the project as defined in the RBS and expressed as activities and can be used both as a planning and reporting tool (Wysocki, 2009). A WBS provides the framework for a detailed cost estimating and control along with providing guidance for schedule development and control (Booz,Allen and Hamilton,2011). There are two approaches to converting the RBS to WBS,the team and subteam approach: (a)Team approach is used in this project even though it is requires more time to complete. It allows all members of the planning team to pay attention to the WBS as it is developed. And this leads to the approaches of WBS.
(b) Out of the 3 possible of Noun, Verb and Organizational, the optional approach for this project will be the noun approach. This approach defines the deliverable of the project work in terms of the physical components that make up our the deliverables.
(c) Six criteria test is used to test for completeness in the WBS. The status of each activity must be measurable, have a date boundary, must have a deliverable, Time and cost easily estimated, the activity duration conform to acceptable limits(2 weeks durations), activities or work assignments must be independent.
