A. Purpose of this Lab. The purpose of this lab is to give you experience using a multimeter to measure the various voltages delivered by a power supply. At the end of this lab you should be able to:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Understand the various functions of a multimeter.
Know how to set the multimeter to test DC voltages.
Know how to use multimeter probes.
Know how to measure various voltages delivered by the power supply.
Understand safety considerations when working around electricity.
B. Cautions.
1. Remember--electrostatic discharge is a major concern while working on computers. Make sure you are properly grounded before touching any component. Consequently, do not use a grounding strap when working around a power supply.
2. Ensure the computer is in working order before performing tests.
3. Make sure your multimeter is set to measure the appropriate type and levels of voltage you expect. 4. Only touch the components necessary to take the required measurements.
C. Procedure. The following procedure applies to our lab computers. All computers are similar but may have different components, component placement, and external case designs.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Power up the computer to make sure it is in working order.
Power the computer down and wait for the disk drive to stop spinning.
Take the top and side case off of the computer.
Turn the computer on its side to expose interior components.
Insert the supplied red and black probes as follows:
a. Red probe into the “+” or positive jack.
b. Black probe into the “-“ or negative jack.
6. Turn on the multimeter.
7. Make sure the multimeter is set to measure DC voltages and that the voltage recording range is set to measure down to one-tenth of a volt.
8. Turn on the computer.
9. Measure each circuit by placing the black probe in the pin indicated in the diagram below and the red probe in the pin indicated.
10. Record the voltage indicated in the appropriate area of the diagram below.
11. Ensure each member of the group has the opportunity to measure circuits.
12. When you have completed the table reassemble the computer.
13. Power up the PC to make sure it works.
D. Record Results. Using the
Randy Murphy NT2670 Advantages and Disadvantages of Windows Server 2008 Server Core and Virtual Servers Benefits Windows Server Core offers a number of benefits, regardless of its intended use reduced maintenance. By default, a Windows Server Core system has very few binaries installed. When a role is added, only the components that are necessary for the role are installed. The binaries are still…
Wingtip Toys With a host of new features to Microsoft Windows Server 2008, I believe that this utility will utilize Wingtips Toys IT investment more efficiently. Combining this new OS with powerful computer hardware and services solutions can result in a tremendous productivity boost from: • Enhanced virtualization features that help you increase system availability • Streamlined management over your remote systems • Improved security to help ensure the confidentiality, integrity and…
Network OS Today, I will install Windows Server 2008 in a virtual machine. I will also install Active Directory in the server. I will then create three user accounts with different levels of authority, create three groups and three computer accounts all within the Windows Server 2008. My plan is to walk you through the process with descriptions and snapshots of what is being done or configured. I will first Start VMWare Workstation to start the server installation You then…
York A senior network administrator for Wingtip Toys, a medium-sized toy manufacturing company with approximately 100 employees located in Queens, New York. The company is contemplating a migration of its network infrastructure from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008. I have been asked by the senior administrator to perform an analysis for this possible upgrade. Organizations have different reasons and requirements for upgrading or migrating their software and hardware systems. Microsoft defines…

Research Assignment Part 1 1 Just as with consumer-oriented versions of Windows, Windows Server comes in several different varieties to accommodate features useful to different types of users. Large businesses are willing to pay dearly for operating systems that support dozens of processors and thousands of users, but a small business would be loathe to pay the same price when all they want is to run a small volume web server. By creating multiple versions with different feature sets, Microsoft is…
products obtained using volume licenses? A. Windows Validation B. Volume Activation C. Volume Activation 2.0 D Windows Genuine Advantage Answer: C Volume Activation (VA) 2.0 does not alter the terms of your license agreement with Microsoft in any way; it is simply a tool to simplify the activation process. For end users, the activation process is completely transparent, and administrators do not have to supply individual product keys when installing Windows. 3. A __________ is a complete installation…

Sql Server Authentication SQL server authentication (1) SQL server recognizes two different types of authentication: Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication. Using Windows Authentication allows users to provide some kind of credentials associated with the windows user accounts built into the domain of your server if it is a windows based system. Using windows authentication provides a more secure environment and is considered integrated security. Each user has a domain log in…
