Course Description:
This course introduces the physical, archaeological, linguistic, and ethnological fields of anthropology. Topics include human origins, genetic variations, archaeology, linguistics, primatology, and contemporary cultures. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the four major fields of anthropology. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement general education core requirement in social/behavioral sciences.

Grading and Evaluation Methods

Quizzes:
Quizzes are a combination of multiple choice, true/false, and matching, but I reserve the right to make last minute, announced changes in format. Make-up format is essay/short answer/definition. There will be a quiz due each week and are based on the week's reading assignment. Quizzes will be worth 10 points each.

Critical Thinking Exercises (CTE's):
There will be weekly critical thinking assignments posted as forums. Each student is required to write between a 200 - 250 word response (unless otherwise noted in the directions) and comment on at least 2 of there classmates postings. Comments should have substance and not be less than 3 sentences. I will read every word you write in every discussion board. I will not comment on every post you make in the discussion board, but will interact with you there.
CTE posts will be worth 10 points and comments worth 5 points each for a total of 15 points per CTE.

Writing Assignments:
There will be 9 written assignments consisting of essay papers. Each paper must be a minimum of 1 FULL page in length and no more than 3 pages. Your papers should be 1.5 spaced and in 12 point font. Proof read your paper, there should be no spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors. Assignments will be worth 30 points each.

Final Project:
For your final project you may choose between the anthropological fieldwork assignment or the Behavioral Observation Project. DIrections for these projects are posted to the in the final module of our Moodle website. Be sure to look over the 2 options early and plan ahead. You will need to either observe an event or interview an informant in order to complete your final project. Do not wait until the last minute! No late projects will be accepted.
Your final project is worth 30 points.

Assignment Submission Formatting:
Files you send in through the Assignment link must be in Rich Text Format (RTF) or Microsoft Word. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you send your work in a format that I cannot open, I will not be able to review and grade your work. Work that is sent in the wrong format and subsequently sent in the correct will have points deducted.

Course grades will be determined according to the following point system: CTE's: 15 @ 15 points each = 225 Assignments: 9 @ 30 points each = 270 Quizzes: 15 @ 10 points each = 150 Final Project: 1 @ 30 points each = 30
