Art Lecture Paper
Art Lecture: Davin Watne Davin Watne was a very interesting person and speaker to listen to. He was really down to Earth and practical but still had that imaginative side to him which is what makes him excel at what he does. I was a very big fan of the first few images he put up in the slide show. The paintings of animals looking at car crashes really intrigued me and got me excited to see more of his work. I think using his past experiences of getting into a car accident to start his career and having something that he could connect so well to it is a huge reason his early work was so successful. I was a little disappointed when he said he had gotten away from that work and changed to something else because I really enjoyed the irony in those images. There were two main pieces that Mr. Watne seemed to be more concerned or have a deeper connection with. The first was the pink car that he had created. At first he seemed like he didn’t know what the purpose was for him to create such a thing. He seemed confused about why he had the urge to make this life size pink sports car that would never actually run like a car. He eventually came to the realization that this was something that he had always wanted and it was a desire deep down. I didn’t understand why he burned the car after all the hard work.
