Where We Come From

The history of the United States of America is what makes us who we are today as a nation. In just over two hundred years, our country has become one of the strongest nations of all times. Knowing our past is the best way to look into our future, as we learn from the mistakes we’ve made and prosper from our achievements.

Spanish explorers followed by Columbus settled in locations from South America throughout the Caribbean into southern America exporting goods and exploiting them in Europe, helping it become one of the largest empires since the Roman Empire. However, just like America’s future of breaking free from British rule, almost all the Spanish colonies fought for and won their independence.

Young America consisted of thirteen established colonies that were brought together by Benjamin Franklin under the motto “Join or Die” with hopes of unionizing the colonies and breaking free from British rule, which led to the Revolutionary war. Two years into the war, George Washington called a secret meeting with representatives appointed by each colony to create the greatest document in our nation’s history, the Declaration of Independence.

As the United States of America broke free from British rule, the beginning of the industrialization in America began. Slaves were brought into work on plantations that produced cotton and tobacco, two of the leading cash crops of the south. They were brought in the early 1600’s from Africa. Post revolutionary war movements in the north gave rise to debate on slavery leading to the civil war between the Union and the Confederates. The north defeated the south leading to the abolishment of slavery.

Although African Americans were freed from slavery, many whites still treated blacks unfairly. They were not given the same rights as the white people and were segregated. It wasn’t until various leaders of the black community such as Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and Rosa Parks stood up and became a voice for African American
Where did we come from? Created by working communities and union associations The Canadian National railway and Canadian Pacific railway employees, for example, and the Montreal firefighters and police officers, founded their caisses in the 1940s. However, most of the caisses d'économie were created in Quebec in the 1960s. They were based on the model provided by their southern counterparts, the American credit unions. At the time of the Quiet Revolution, workers found it difficult to borrow…
In every life, everyone comes across choices and decisions, some insignificant while others are vital and mold our very future. In some cases one may decide to take action when others will turn the other way and imagine it doesn’t exist. Everything one does or doesn’t do molds and transforms life either for the better or for the worse. Even the decision to do nothing, has an effect on one’s life and the lives of others. If nothing is ever done, change will never come, and without change our evolving…
Where did it all start? This is the BIG question? How did humans come to be? Why is there religion? Who built the pyramids? Why are we black, white, brown and yellow? Where did WE come from? Although there is not one definite answer to these questions and many other questions, there is a lot of evidence which gives us some information to be able to make an assumed answer but still not 100% factual. In learning the history of Mesopotamia, we are still left with questions but are given information…
is a march from innocence, through temptation, to virtue or vice.” Lyman Abbott In the poem ‘The Road Not Taken’ Robert Frost toys with the ideas of innocence and experience that one can relate to in his or her own life by the choices they have to make in their day to day lives. Like his other works that explore fundamental questions of existence, depicting the loneliness of an individual in an indifferent universe, the poem ‘The road not taken’ explores a man’s uncertainty to choose from two paths…
is like being gay; being different, but if we are allowed to be different colours, be any shape, be any gender, or even come from any different culture, then why are people not allowed being homosexual? James M. Barrie once said “As soon as you can say what you think and not what some other person has thought for you, you are on the way to being remarkable”. Being different is not very hard but accepting that you are, is challenging. Throughout the class we watched many different documentaries on marginalized…

what you allow in your life allows yourself to have the confidence that you are picking the right path. Mississippi Burning The film "Mississippi Burning" is set in a time where civil rights was still not put into place. Three pro civil rights people tried to convince the state of Mississippi to integrate. In doing so the three workers were killed by members of the Klu Klux Klan. Integration in Mississippi wasn't something that was accepted and this is still argued. You are not born a races but you are taught to become one and that’s what many Mississippi parents did with their children. Race…

They span still from the Americas to the European countries still. Most Caucasian people in the Americas families have come across the…
