What is surrealism

A movement dedicated to expressing the imagination as revealed in dreams, free of the conscious control of reason and convention. The major artists of the movement were Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, René Magritte and Joan Miró. Surrealism's impact on popular culture can still be felt today, most visibly in advertising.

My idea

I first looked and examined other artist’s surreal work such as Salvador Dali and Joseph Cornell. I really liked the idea of taking two simple elements that were very different from each other and putting them together in a painting. I wanted to paint an animal and put it in a background where it would stand out but blend well because having the background was important key for this project. I found a really good picture from Google images that presented my idea clearly and decided to replicate the painting.

Problems that you solved

Problems I faced were getting the right shade and color to the painting itself. There were different shades that would change dramatically in the image and blending them took some time. However I managed to solve this problem by practicing over until I felt more comfortable with the brush.

Another problem I faced was drawing the horse’s head along with it’s physical features because there were small details that needed to be filled in a small space. I overcame this problem by using thinner
