Introduction
Students will do a group project where they read aloud their chapter (either one or two) and respond to teacher commentary and teacher strategic questioning using video embedded technology. Students will also create a poster board outline of the first two chapters which will be embedded in the activity.
Step-by-step Procedures
After pre-reading The Giver chapters 1 and 2 at home the night before, students will come to class ready to make a recording of themselves reading the story aloud. Students will use their netbooks equipped with cameras and sound recording and work in groups of four or five assigning specific duties of reader, recorder for the first portion of the assignment. Once the recording is complete the students will use poster board to create a chapter summary which will be photographed and embedded in the lesson activity section of Google Classroom under The Giver Chapter 1 or The Giver chapter 2 depending on which chapter the students are assigned. After students turn in their projects, I will give them feedback via video embedded in their video! I will ask the students to create their own Screencastify which they will embed in the poster board static picture which has a basic outline of what happened in the first two chapters and ask them to discuss at least one of the following: family/relationships, diversity and feelings as they relate to the text.
