Virtual Meeting Scenario Paper The obstacles that stand out are within communication and culture barrier. The communication between Pablo and Sam seem like the most bothersome. If both parties, including Lifang Lin communicate in a way where all three are on common ground, rather than one on high ground, one on low ground, and another off in the distance. Americans may come off as rude to other cultures, which may not be the case; it may just be that the American is unaware of insult he or she caused. There were a lot of insults in a few of the different responses. One of the insults basically asked Lifang Li if she wanted to be the lead, since she had the most sense/more intelligent than Sam, and Pablo. That response was an insult to an individuals’ intelligence and would have not been taken lightly. The other comment that would have struck a nerve that Pablo had made, stating that he basically could not help if the Mexican is harder working than an American, as a retort. When someone makes a joke about Americans and what they do, like eat then go to sleep. That would have not struck a nerve, just would have been left a thought of being puzzled. The feeling of being excluded would probably not bother some, they may even think easy day. Truthfully, being left out of a meeting, conversation, or what have you, is very irritating. Who would want to feel as though they do not belong, as if their thought does not matter? The answer would be no one, at least for a healthy, sane human-being. If excluded from the meeting, a level of assertiveness from the author would make him included, as in these situations, the more adamant the author becomes. Maybe interject an opinion, or asking a team member how something that they brought up will work.
One must introduce himself to the group in which he will be working. There are certain things that can be done to make individuals ascertain themselves in this meeting type of scenario. There would be a little small talk, just to try and get a glimpse of Pablo, Lifang Li, and Sam. The reason is as a team, some type of bond need to be planted, watered, so that it will grow, it will only do positive things for team productivity. An individual would be more willing to try their best for the team if there was a bond, versus it being all about business. This obviously destroys chance for diversity growth.
We will start with Lifang Li, she could have added a bit more about herself, or try not to be cut and paste. There is something about answering a question and not elaborating that goes against being business oriented. Pablo could have left out the “they say I am handsome/good looking part. That expression could be taken negatively in a business setting, be yourself, but remember you are here for business. It is understood by Americans that they joke about people and culture. A lot of times it is just that, a joke. Sam should have been culturally aware that a lot of things Americans do can be very offensive to another culture. He should not have

suppliers was busted on October 7, 2007 for child labor violations. Two weeks later, a pregnant factory worker whose request to leave work had been denied went into labor and lost her baby at the factory. Another worker died after being verbally abused for seeking permission to go to the hospital. Since many sweatshop workers, including children as young seven, are stuck in dark rooms for up to 16 hours a day while working seven days a week, such tragedies should hardly be surprising.…
