Describe the characteristics of epithelial tissue. (5 points)

The epithelial tissue covers body surfaces and forms glands and lines hollow organs, body cavities and ducts. Epithelium is used to line the surfaces and form protective barriers. It is good at secreting things like mucous, hormones and other substances. You can name the tissue based off of two things., according to the shape and the arrangement. There are three type of arrangements simple, pseudostratified and stratified. There are also three types of shapes, squamous, cuboidal and columnar. You can state one of these tissues by first saying the arrangement and then the shape. Although you can find epithelial tissue anywhere throughout the body some are associated with specific body locations.

Describe the characteristics of connective tissue. (5 points)

Connective tissue are the most abundant and widely distributed tissue in the body. They are the most heterogeneous of the tissue groups. They perform a variety of functions. They bind tissues together, support and strengthen tissue, protect,insulate internal organs, transport, energy reserves and immune responses. Connective tissue is usually highly vascular and supplied with many nerves. There are six common connective tissue cells. They are fibroblast, chrondrocytes, adipocytes,osteocytes, mast and white blood cells. We can break down connective tissue into two major subclasses: embryonic connective tissue and mature connective tissue.

Describe the characteristics of nervous tissue. (5 points)

The nervous tissue is composed of neurons and neuroglia. Neuroglia are protective and supporting cells. Neurons respond to stimuli by converting stimuli to electrical signals called nerve action potentials and then having those nervous send off signals to other parts of the body. Most neurons have two processes dendrites and axons.

Describe the various appendages of the skin and their structure. (5 points)

Skin appendages are skin associated structures that serve as a particular function including sensation, contractility, lubrication and heat loss. Some of the common skin appendages are hairs, sebaceous glands, sweat glands, and nails. Hair includes three main parts, the shaft, the follicle, the roots that penetrates into the dermis level of the skin. This is where there are two additional shafts.
