Multicultural Education Scenario

In my classroom I would use many different approaches to incorporate multicultural education and make sure that all of the students were learning the materials. Here is my plan and outline to be successful in my efforts to teach in a diverse classroom.
Plan my lessons each week based on topics and activities that I plan to use that all of the students can participate in.
Each week choose a different culture to learn about it and include activities and videos about that culture so all learning types as in catering to students that do better with hands on learning or visual learning or audio learning. Make sure that all students can relate and understand the topics.
Introduce the class by having all of the students write a paper about themselves telling where they are from, what their parents do for a living, all of their likes and dislikes, and things about their cultures that others may not already know. I believe that this will ensure that all of the students get to know each other and become acquainted and this will make participating in classroom discussions and activities a little bit easier.
Figure out how all of the students learn best and find out which learning style fits best. Some students may like to role-play while others like to learn alone or work in pairs. I will try to cater to all types of ways of learning styles and address each of the learning styles n my lesson plans by having activities and assignments where we all participate like maybe a small play where the students can role-play or have an assignment where the students have to work alone or in pairs. Some children lean best when they are read to while others may rather read the assignment themselves.
Make time for questions and classroom discussions. Make sure that anyone with a question or a comment can express their ideas or questions.
Use as many resources as I can to find teaching material and curriculum. Use newspaper articles, the internet, videos and audio tapes as well as maybe guest speakers that can come in and tell about their own cultures and their lives with disabilities. I feel that the children will benefit from this because they will see how much they are alike and possibly focus more on what they can accomplish together rather than alone by themselves.
Make sure that the projects that I plan on doing will not cost the student a lot of money, so that everyone can participate and not feel left out.
Make sure that I get the disabled students involved with everything and try to have an assistant to help so we can focus on the whole class without making any one child feel singled out or awkward. Sometimes when a student needs more attention they are scared to ask for help because they don’t want the other students to know that they need help.
Make time for study groups
Offer after school tutoring for students that need some help if they don’t understand the assignments.
Make sure that the students are praised and recognized for their successes.

To get the ball rolling with the action of my plan I would have the students write an essay about themselves including the following information:
Where they are from
Where their parents are from
If they know where their grandparents are from
What their hobbies and favorites things are
Favorite foods
Do they have brothers
