We are the delegation of Canada. We feel that we can set an example to the rest of the world because as a whole we do not have many major problems regarding freedom of expression, despite this we still have some occasional issues to do with the topic. The Canadian press enjoys rights of publication which means that the people of the country are kept well informed of issues in Canada and other countries. We think that if the press enjoy rights to freedom of expression, everyone else should be entitled to this as well. Canada does its best to protect the racial and social minorities of the country including children, homosexuals and Eskimos. Previously we have been branded racist for using the term "visible minorities" but following strong advice from UN secretary generals we no longer use that term and we are sorry to anybody that was offended by it.
However, there have been times when people have been prosecuted for things that they have done relating to freedom of expression. One example of this would be when Dr. Rocket and Dr. Price were taken to court for advertising their dental company. They were eventually charged with violating the prohibition of advertising under the health disciplines act. The reason that in Canada we prosecute people for this is to make sure that everyone has a fair chance. You see, if people were allowed to advertise health services , the richer ones would be able to afford it and the ones with less money wouldn't. Therefore the smaller ones with less money would go out of business. This is just one example of how in Canada we try our hardest to protect our people and give everyone a fair chance.
We protect our people in many other ways as well. This one example relates to children. A multinational company, Kellogg's were once prosecuted by The Supreme Court of Canada for advertising their cereal. They made a little cartoon advert that would appeal to children but what they didn't know was that in Canada it is illegal to advertise to children in cartoon form. They were sued for millions.
Quebec (a French-speaking province in Canada) has the authority to regulate media such as television. An example of this is when they try to protect their national language (French) by putting a ban on English/American advertising. There were mixed views within Canada regarding the ban.
