Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart is one if not the largest international discount retail chains in the world. Wal-Mart was founded by a man named Sam Walton in the 1950’s who started with a one building that turned into many, which is a billion dollar company to this very day. The first official Wal-Mart did not open until 1962("History of Wal-Mart," 2009). Some people don’t like the fact that Wal-Mart’s come into their town because they put the mom and pop business owners in a tight corner when it comes to their customers and employees. When a Wal-Mart is placed into a town it is hard for a mom and pop to compete because of the muscle behind the company. Wal-Mart offers more products and can produce them at a much faster rate than a mom and pop store could so it could drive them to going out of business.

The success of Wal-Mart over the years is remarkable and the fact that one man had this vision. I know he didn’t do the whole thing by himself, I am pretty sure that he had a very strong team behind him every step of the way. Every change that this company has made over the years has been for the good of the company. I can remember when Wal-Mart was plain and simple with not grocery section or produce. As the years went by the came out with Wal-Mart Super Centers took over the market, make it hard for other groceries to compete with their low prices.
