Video Games and Chiropractors
Chiropractic (chiro- "hand" + praktikos "practical", means "done by hand.") is a complementary and alternative medicine health care profession (Dr. Gary Johnson, 12/6/12). My life focus has been sports. Any kind of sport: high school baseball, high school basketball, high school football, college football, college basketball, college baseball, National Basketball Association, National Football Association, and Major League Baseball. As a three sport athlete in high school, I had aches and pains in places I could never imagine. My chiropractor made it possible for me to play without pain. Every time I stepped into his office and told him what was going on he knew exactly what to do to make me feel better. Doctor Gary Johnson is the reason I have decided to pursue a career in chiropractic work. He knows his job, he is there to help people, and he does honest work. It will give me a way to stay connected to sports, learn more in depth about the human anatomy, and help other people the way my chiropractor helped me. I also picked this major, because I am a people person. I find it extremely easy to relate to people I don’t really know. I enjoy meeting new people, and as a chiropractor knowing your clients is half the job (Dr. Gary Johnson, 12/6/12). Chiropractors are unique in a way; they do not use medicine to heal you. It is a natural process, a client throws their back out of place, and my job as chiropractor is to put it back where it is supposed to be explains Dr. Johnson. I, myself am not a fan of pain killers. I do my best to avoid them, and only take them if I am in real pain. Chiropractic work is also unique in the way it uses technology. My brother who is diagnosed with muscular dystrophy cannot be adjusted normally. Doctor Johnson uses a pro adjust, which a machine is sending shock waves through an adjustment wand adjusting the patient. Gary Johnson explained to me depth how this machine works, and after talking to my brother (had a rib adjusted back into place) says, “It is the best he has felt in a while.” Chiropractic work has interested me for years, because of the way my chiropractor treated me. He treats every client like a personal friend, the technology is advancing quickly, it will keep me revolved around sports, let me interact with people, and most importantly I will be helping people feel better. The way technology is advancing is amazing. Technology in video games could benefit chiropractors in the future. Video game software is extremely advanced, and is beginning to create health games, balance games, and exercise games. This technology could help chiropractors with their adjustments, telling them exactly how to do the adjustment, and if it is wrong the video game will tell them if they did it wrong and what to do to fix it. Video games are becoming more realistic with each new game and game console. There was a point in time when video games were bad for you, and only increased childhood obesity. Video game technology has advanced so much that there are video games out there designed to help the player become fit and in-shape.
Video games date clear back to the 1970’s, where the first arcade game was invented, and installed into Harvard University. In September 1971, the first arcade game was installed in a student union building of the Harvard University. Galaxy war, based on Spacewar, was the first coin operated game. Pong, the first arcade game with real success was played on the first game console called Atari. Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney, the founders of Atari in 1972, really started video games. They produced the first video game console ever, and now there are many different gaming consoles to pick from. They opened the door to gaming. About ten years later, the arcade game industry entered its golden age in 1978 with the release of Space Invaders by Taito, a success that inspired dozens of manufacturers to enter the market.
