Career pathway When I was little, people used to ask me what I was going to be but I had no idea what to say. I either told them that I was going to be a good person or a superman. But when it comes to reality and as we get old enough, the problematical question comes to mind; what am I going to be in the future? Many people say that you should choose a field that you really enjoy and be satisfied about how much it pays and of course the work environment too. When I got my first computer I discovered what I wanted to be. After doing some researches I found that computer software engineering was what I wanted to become. According to www. Webopedia.com, a software engineer is a licensed professional engineer who is schooled and skilled in the application of engineering discipline to the creation of software. After finding out what I wanted to be there are series of questions that wait to be answered. One of those questions is what are the requirements for this job and how do I get them. To become a software engineer, at least an undergraduate degree is necessary although the majority of employers hire candidates hold bachelor’s degree and have relevant work experience with many different computer systems and technologies. For more complicated jobs, graduate degrees may be required. Software engineers are usually required to have a good first degree, BTEC or HND in a relevant subject such as computing, computer science, information technology, software development or software engineering. For graduates with a non-related degree it is possible to sign on to a graduate training scheme with a company, which will provide professional training in software engineering. Alternatively, many universities offer post-graduate conversion courses in IT related subjects which may be a quicker, but more expensive way, of getting a job. Also knowledge of programing is one of the essential things to become a software engineer according to www.wikipedia.com. Another basic requirement for this job is to take as many math courses as possible and get to know algebra, calculus and trigonometry. For many people salary of the job is either the first or the second thing they look for. For me it would be the second since I believe that you should love what you do and be able to enjoy it at the same time. As a matter of fact I cannot skip this question. Computer software engineers earn an excellent salary for their services. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of 2012, the median annual software engineer salary was $83,130, with the middle 50 percent earning salaries between $65,810 and $102,710 and the highest 10% earned salaries above $130,850. After doing researches about this job, there is one more question that comes to my mind and to be the best of this job it is important to ask this question. The question is where can I get the best education? According to education-portal.com Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, WI can be considered as one of the top schools for this field.” The Milwaukee School of Engineering is a private university that was founded in 1903 Oscar Werwarth.
