Virginia Toll Roads There are toll roads all over the United States. State-funded toll roads are less congested, require a low fee, and are completely voluntary to use. Although there is a fee, toll roads are convenient and almost necessary to keep traffic running smoothly. Most people do not mind paying the toll because the rate is so low. Furthermore, drivers definitely don’t mind the shorter commute. It is easy to see why introducing more tolls in Virginia would be a smart investment. Taxes are not going to get the roads rebuilt, so the state must turn to strategies like toll roads. Many people consider the trend towards tolls unfair. It is hard to be biased when taking a toll road is completely voluntary. Commuters complain because they see that a toll road is being constructed, and they feel like they are being punished for having to drive. However, they do not have to take these roads if they don’t want to. The fee required at a toll booth is a convenience fee. The driver chooses to pay to use a road that saves time. Many people do not realize that toll roads are not being built to hinder; instead, they are installed to help. Not only will they relieve that stress of congested roads, but also try to save the taxpayers a little bit of money when it comes to funding road construction.
Further, there should be more toll roads in Virginia is because the roads are getting worse, and Virginians are losing money. The roads and highways in Hampton Roads are slowly starting to fall apart, and the state has no money to fix them. One fact that many people don’t know is that the money from tolls is not going to taxes, but instead going toward the construction of new roads. The cost of road construction is surpassing inflation, causing taxes to rise. Toll roads should be built in order to create some source of revenue so that the tax rates will be lower here in Virginia.
