I think that the morale of the story is the importance of perseverance. Also to keep hope and faith through difficult times. Julilly and Liza had tough times trying so hard to get to Canada but they made it.

This lesson of “not giving up” also relates to Nelson Mandela. He wrote famous quotes about failing and not giving up. He had a very hard beginning getting arrested and going to jail for a long time and just like Julilly and Liza, he had to struggle to find a way to bring freedom to the black people in his country. If Julilly and Liza could speak to Nelson Mandela face to face, they would probably give each other a big hug and would talk a long time about how their lives were similar.

This lesson of “not giving up” relates to my personality of achievement Nelson Mandela because he wrote many famous quotes on never failing. Nelson Mandela had a very hard beginning getting arrested and going to jail for quite a while so he’s just like Jullily and Liza, struggling and finding ways for freedom for the black people. If Julilly and Liza would speak to Nelson Mandela face to face, he would give the biggest warmth a person could ever have because of how much of a comparison their lives were.

“Not giving up” also is connected to The Lord of the Rings series. The fellows who help Frodo destroy the ring run in to some very mean bad guys, but the fellows fight for their lives and don’t give up. I find that both books are extremely connected, even though ones violent and the other isn’t, because they both fight hard to reach their goal and they don’t give up.
