Horses can be trained to do several different things and ridden for such jobs as police work or for herding other animals. They are used for competitive sports such as eventing, reining, polo, show jumping, horse racing, and rodeo. Horses lived in North America but began to die out at the end of the Ice Age and then were brought brought back by European explorers on the secon voyage of Christopher Columbus in 1493.
