Since Upton was no stranger to the public much of his business was out in the open but many people didn’t know much about his family and personal life and this biography opened the door into that side of Upton that most hadn’t know about. The jungle
. New York: Grosset & Dunlap. This was Sinclair's expose on the meat packing industry and his most published and well known book to date. This book is what got Sinclair on the map when it came to being an author and a muckraker, it caused people to take him and his writings more seriously. The book follows Lithuanian immigrants who struggle to make ends meet and face the hardships of working in an unregulated, unhealthy work environment that was the meat packing industry. Sinclair, U. The Brass check: A study of American journalism.

The Brass Check was one of the many books the Upton SInclair wrote during his time as a muckraker and in it he described the downfall of the press. He discussed his idea on how the government, press and any financial interest in relation to journalists (people who pay them off to say what they need them to say) should be completely separated. He expressed how he felt that the separation between these entities needed to exist for publicists to truly investigate public and private vices. Sinclair, U. (1962).
