What is the landmark case about? This was a landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students unconstitutional. The Supreme Court overturned the decision in Plessy stating that the separate but equal doctrine had no place in the field of public education. Segregation in public schools violated the 14th Amendment's equal protection clause.
The case received it’s name from the lawsuit from the parents of Linda Brown, who had to travel a long distance to attend school meanwhile, white children went to a school fairly close.
