It is inappropriate for Russia to grant asylum to Snowden because he is allowed to walk free out of Moscow airport transit zone despite the risk of a breach in relations with the United States. He chooses his place of residence and forms of protection. A man whom committed such a big crime should not be able to live as a free man. I think Russia is just using him and he is falling into their trap in order to survive. Because of this man, other countries will try to capitalize off of our mistakes if the get a hold of the surveillance program. History shows that the US president Barrack Obama and Russia president Vladimir Putin never got along to begin with. The leaders have clashed numerous of times over important issues; for instance, Iran nuclear program and most recently Russia’s support for Syrian President Bashar Assad, according to the Los Angeles Times. So not only is inappropriate for Russia to grant asylum to Snowden, its affect the public needs to know the level important of national security.
The question that now arises from this incident is, “Should our national security be shared with the public domain?” Personally, I have trust in our government because we are a democracy and we elected those individuals into office and expect them to do their responsibility. Now don’t get me wrong sometime the individual(s) that we elect turn out to be a disaster, but our government should be normal most of the time just by looking at the precedent. Therefore, it should be their choice to give out confidential information. As I stated earlier, the marginal benefit of the public knowing information is too little to risk. On the other hand the marginal cost is way too heavy to carry. According to economic thinking, when something marginal cost outweigh it benefit then you should try to find an alternative solution, product, or ideas. To have a country running normally and efficiently then the government should keep the people happy because once the public turn on you, it will be hard to get them back.
