April 15, 2015 1) Theory of relativity: The idea that theory and time are relative concepts rather than absolute concepts. Influenced developments in physics, geometry and astronomy.
2) Quantum Mechanics: Explains the structure of an atom and the structure of a nucleus. It is important because it created the physics and chemistry we know today.
3) Big Bang Theory:
The theory that the universe was created 20 billion years ago from the explosion of a small mass of matter at extremely high density and temperature. This helps explain how the universe was created.
4) Psychology: The study of mental and behavioral process. Psychology comes hand in hand with the way political and morals have developed throughout history, as to explain why some of these events in history happened.
5) Polio vaccine: A vaccine for an intestinal disease that attacks brain and spinal cord cells. This vaccine was practiced of rhesus monkeys and in result of many of them dying they found a cure that saved many live across the globe.
6) Antibiotics:
Helped to cure illnesses that we don’t think much about today, that used to cause severe damage before there was an antibiotic for the illness.
7) Artificial heart:
A device placed inside the body to replace the original heart. This then lowers the need for donor hearts and causes less of a struggle for the chance of an infection.
8) Malaria:
On of the most devastating diseases in the tropics and became a huge health hazard to U.S troops in the South Pacific during WWII.
9) Tuberculosis:
An infectious disease that may affect almost all tissues of the body, especially the lungs. And has been determined as a global health emergency disease.
10) Cholera:
A bacterial disease that is usually spread through water. This was also one of the deadliest diseases in India.
11) 1918 Influenza pandemic: Hit during the fall of the Great War, when most soldiers were using trench warfare. Over half of the US men in Europe died of influenza.
12) Ebola: A disease that is transmitted from human to human. It was first discovered in 1976 and the most current outbreak of ebola was in 2014 killing more than the first time it appeared.
13) HIV/AIDS:
A disease transmitted through bodily fluids and was first reported over 30 years ago. It has become one of the worlds leading causes of death.
14) Diabetes: A disease that results in too much sugar in the blood. Childhood type one diabetes was discovered in the 20th century and was extremely fatal.
15) Heart disease: In the mid­twentieth century heart­disease was skyrocketing and twice as many died from heart disease than cancer, usually it was found in older people. Then in the
1950s young men in the military started to suffer from heart disease. Because of this the National
Heart, Lung and Blood Institute was created.

16) Alzheimer’s disease:
The most common type of dementia. It was considered the disease of the 20th century because it was found in so many people who were over the age of 65.
17) Tanks: A large armoured vehicle that was designed to go into the front line of battle, because of their ability to resist enemies fire. And they were created to break the means of trench warfare. 18) Airplanes:
They were first developed to survey enemies territory but then they were designed to carry guns, bombs, and torpedoes.
19)Atomic bomb:
This bomb was the creation by humans to destroy one’s self (other humans and nature). The atomic bomb was dropped on Japan in the means to stop WWII, and it devastated the land that it blew up on.
20) Trench Warfare: Where the two opponents attack, counter­attack and defend from relatively the same position. This type of warfare was mainly used in WWI and was abandoned in later wars.
