Outcome 1: Understand how to plan and provide environments and services that support children and young people’s health & safety.
1.1 Factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor & outdoor environments & services.

• Who needs to access environments & services?
I.e. Only staff, parents, children taking into account age range, disabilities.
• The schools health & safety policy and who is responsible for this.
• The needs of pupils to explore their environment safely & securely.
• The schools requirements & any other guidelines for health, hygiene, safety & supervision in the setting including access to premises, store rooms and storage areas.
Health & safety is monitored continuously within our school environment. I am responsible for H &S within our school and work closely with the Essex School Consortium H & S Manager to ensure all aspects of H & S are covered and monitored effectively.
I carry out a ½ termly H & S audit to check that there are no outstanding issues or matters of H & S that need to be addressed. My findings are submitted to the HT and a copy of my findings sent to the Governing body to ensure they are aware of any issues. Anything requiring action is either referred to the School caretaker or to the HT to action.
Staff are encouraged to report any issues of H & S as soon as they become apparent.
We have a Health & Safety Policy which is available to all people accessing the school environment.
Risk Assessments are a really important way of protecting the people within our school and are carried out to protect ourselves and those around us.

We carry out an annual Matrix which looks at all aspects of health & safety and ensures all areas are up to date and relevant to the school environment.

We have policies and procedures and risk assessments relating to all aspects of the curriculum and use of the environment and equipment.

The majority of policies are renewed annually and procedures for safe practice are kept up to date in line with guidelines set out by
