The Importance of being on time in the Army

Every duty day you are required to be at a certain place at a certain time and in the correct uniform, more than once. Being late is unacceptable. Although there are plenty of excuses why you are unable to make it to the place required, none of them are excusable on your tardiness. This offense in the eyes of the army can be found in article 87 of the uniform code of military justice. This falls under the greater banner of “missing movement”. This article states “any person subject to this chapter who neglect or design misses the movement of a ship, aircraft, or unit with which he is required in the course of duty to move shall be punished as a court martial may direct”. It basically states that if the accused was required in the course of the duty to move with the unit under orders, and that the accused knew of the prospective movement, and that the accused missed said movement, and if the accused missed the movement in question through his or hers own design or neglect. Every Morning in our company is pretty easy. A majority of the time you need to be in the same place at the same time every morning. Although traffic on Fort Stewart can be bad, it is simple to adjust. In Charlie we simply bring our entire PT uniform so as to change into whatever the standard may be that particular morning. Be in the company before 0600 and you will be alright, bring all the appropriate uniform items and you will be fine. Being at the right place at the right time for any member of the Army is extremely essential to the defense of the entire United States of America. It's because of this that being on time is remarkably important. Dependability, accountability, consistency and discipline are all crucially important for all members of the Military. Being on time shows that a soldier is dependable and has his priorities straight. Being where one needs to be at the right time always one of the most important aspects of being a soldier. Failure to be on time hinders mission ready capability and readiness. It effects not just you but the team, squad, platoon, and even company that you are affiliated with. It ensures that whatever needs to be accomplished whether mission or duty is done correctly in the appropriate timing that is required for instance. There is a guard duty on gate 3. 4 soldiers are required to show up around 1100 so as that when traffic picks up at lunch time there is plenty of manning power to accomplish the task of getting people through in a timely manner, One of the Soldiers shows up late and traffic has begun to flow through. Not only is his actions effecting him but its putting strain on the team that he was affiliated with as well as the people who are trying to get where they need to be. It is important to realize that it is necessary for those in the Army are held to a high standard. Punctuality remains and always will be an extremely vital aspect of military bearing and discipline. It has a direct correlation to soldierly appearance, combat readiness, mission effectiveness, and essentially every aspect of military life and responsibility. If you are late you risk losing information as well. Regularly, When you are required to be somewhere, it is because important information is being presented to the team, squad, platoon, ect. When you fail to show up for this, you fail to retain the information that you need in order to accomplish the mission or task that is required to be completed.
