Task A- Short Answer Questions Ai) Imagine you are a newly appointed supervisor/manager within your service. You need to update your staff handbook to reflect current employment law. Identify three different sources of information you could use to enable you to do this. (3 marks) * The Government website www.gov.uk is one source of information that could be used. It has information on many things including benefits, working, jobs and pensions. This website has an entire section dedicated to “employing people” and gives information about statutory rights for employees regarding all aspects of employment including: The Terms and Conditions of my employment also state that I must purchase and wear a nursery uniform, and that it is maintained and laundered to standards required by the employer. The contract also says that my employer offers a stakeholder pension scheme through HSBC and that they will offer a discount of 20% to employees bringing their own children to the nursery (reduced to 10% when funding is received) The contract also states that after the first 4 weeks of service to the employer, they are required to give me 1 weeks’ notice for each completed year of service up to a maximum of 12 weeks’ notice for 12 or more years. Disciplinary rules and grievance procedures are also briefly outlined within the contract, saying to refer to the staff handbook for the full procedures. I am also expected to acquaint myself with all the office rules and procedures available from the Personnel Office. The contract also includes Data Protection Act 1998 information saying that the employer can keep my personnel records whilst I am employed and for six years after I leave employment. The information received may only be used for statistical purposes and for monitoring the effectiveness of the company’s equal opportunities programmes. My contract also includes that to protect others, this employment is exempt from Section4(2) of the Rehabilitation Offenders Act 1974, so I am not
