UK DECLARES WAR ON GERMANY
Dear citizens of the United Kingdom, today, August 4 1914, marks the official declaration of World War 1; and more importantly, the start of a time where your country requests for your help.
ALLIANCES WILL BATTLE IN THE WORLD WAR
German militarism and especially the buildup of naval power convinced Great Britain that Germany may soon establish itself as a dominant power on the Continent. In order to create a counterweight to the German Empire, the British decided to enter into an alliance with France that came to be known as Entente Cordiale. In 1907, Britain also entered into an alliance with Russia that was already in alliance with France. This formed the Triple Entente which in turn will become the opposing force against the Allies during The Great War.
ASSASSINATION OF ARCHDUKE FRANZ FERDINAND
On June 28, 1914, a group of conspirators from the revolutionary movement called Mlada Bosna (‘Young Bosnia’) carried out the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian heir presumptive, Archduke Franz Ferdin and his wife while they were visiting Sarajevo. Since the assassin, Gavrilo Principe and his 5 accomplices were Bosnian Serbs, the Dual Monarchy accused Serbia to stand behind the assassination. The event is the trigger to the course of events that will lead directly to the outbreak of World War I.
ULTIMATUM GOES INCOMPLETE
On July 23, Austria-Hungary presented an ultimatum to Serbia. Vienna, however, intentionally; imposed impossible demands to Serbia in order to be able to declare war on its neighbor for ‘orchestrating’ the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. A few days ago, the Austro-Hungarian troops invaded Serbia and started the First World War

fringe rather than having been driven by a deep New Labour desire to democratise. Constitutional reform hasn’t gone far enough because the UK constitution isn’t fully codified. Codification would provide a counter-balance to the power of the executive. At present the Prime Minister wields enormous power through the royal prerogative, such as the power to declare war without the need for Parliament’s consent. Increasingly, much of what we have taken our constitution to entail, such as Cabinet government…

It is therefore dangerous for democracy to permit judges to become politicians in robes and to substitute their moral judgements for those of elected representatives on issues outside their essential field.
