Hauntings
Most people don't realize that there are more than one type of ghosts. There are actually three main types of spirits. Those three being, residual, intelligent and poltergeists. These types break down the activity of the ghost or spirit. Residual is a replay of an event that happened to the apparition, such as a death or final moment. Intelligent ghosts act freely, moving about, and causing reactions in objects as they wish. Poltergeists are the most commonly known and are technically a subclass of intelligent.
They are known for their mischievous nature towards the people that encounter them.
A residual ghost or spirit is, basically, a “recording” of an event in time that is repeated. They are nothing more than endless loops of the same scene being played over and over again. There are two ways these impressions are left behind. One way is a traumatic event, and the other is someone doing an action over and over again in the same location. Residual ghosts usually live out their final hours over and over again. Residuals most often show no intelligence or self awareness. They will go right past or through a person without a flinch. Many believe it was their emotional energy that left an imprint or recording on our our dimensional frequency, like a tape recorder. One example would be of someone getting hit by a train on a full moon night and now every time there's a full moon the ghost is seen walking the tracks.
An intelligent ghost is not “stuck in time” like a residual ghost. They are very interactive and tend to try and attract one's attention. They attempt this by creating odors, moving objects, making noises or moving and hiding objects. Intelligent hauntings can be unnerving to some, since these spirits can interact with the living. However, it is important to remember that these spirits were at one time
human beings. They typically maintain their personalities they had when they were alive. Kind, warm people turn into benevolent spirits. Angry or bitter people turn into troublesome spirits. It is important to note that these so-called troublesome spirits will rarely cause injuries to the living. Most injuries to the living are the result of careless fleeing because of fright. However caution is recommended with the real cranky ones!
There are even spirits that can be a little mischievous for their amusement. Most people associate intelligent hauntings as one that has evil or bad intentions. In fact, most intelligent hauntings are seeking just one thing – attention. They do what they can to get anyone's attention – they open and close doors, move things, turn electronics on and off, try touching people, and make noise. Their intention is often misunderstood, most are not trying to scare somebody, but get their attention.
It is often said that word Poltergeist comes from two German words meaning “noisy ghost”. It is also a topic that has been covered in some blockbuster movies. But like anything Hollywood produces, they generally take liberties in order to create a more exciting product. Poltergeists have been researched for many
