A.1. Identify and Describe a Current Nursing Practice within your Healthcare Setting that Requires Change. Willow Creek Women’s Hospital is located in Johnson, Arkansas. Willow Creek is a 38 bed hospital specializing in women’s health, including labor and deliver. Currently we practice skin to skin with our mothers and babies post birth for vaginal deliveries. Skin to skin is when an infant is put directly on the mother’s chest after delivery. The infant is dried off and assessed while on the mother’s chest. We will need to make sure that there is always a healthcare provider available to make sure the infant stays in place on the mother’s chest, since she will be lying flat supine. This person will need to stay close by incase the infant has to be moved off of the mother quickly. A pediatrician will also attend the task force meetings. The pediatrician will be knowledgeable about the most up to date skin to skin practices. The pediatrician will help set guideline for which infants are candidates for skin to skin. We will want skin to skin practice to be safe and appropriate care. Infants must be watched closely to make sure they are transitioning well. 3.
