During a trip to the Caribbean recently, I was observing the lifestyles of the people who inhabited the islands. Some seemed very well off, while others did not. I was curious about how the people there earn their income. I wondered for awhile and I soon came to a possible conclusion. Their main income in the Caribbean area must be tourism. Considering so many people come to the Caribbean from all over the world, it could very well be a possibility.
One way they could make their income off of tourism is their Cuisine. Many tourists want to experience the differing and unique cuisines from around the world, So restaurants in the Caribbean must benefit from this. People who work for the restaurants benefit when tourists show up to eat authentic Caribbean food for many reasons. They do not only get paid by people coming in to eat, but are also tipped generously by visitors, especially if the food is great and the service is exceptional. If a lot of tourists come to eat at a certain location, people will notice this, boosting the restaurants popularity. When more people show up to the restaurant, because of the increased number of people eating there, they will make more money from new customers along with more tip money. People coming in from different parts of the world also help get the restaurant recognized on national level, especially if tourists review the shop online, giving positive reviews. So not only does tourism just help the income of restaurant owners, it also helps to boost the recognition and popularity that the restaurant gets.

Tourists visiting Craft and souvenir shops could also contribute to the income of people in the Caribbean. Many tourists visit souvenir and craft shops in the caribbean so that they can bring authentic things back home for themselves, their family, and their friends. The shop owners must get a lot of money from these people, more sales then they ever would without tourists around. Sure, people who live in the caribbean visit these stores for items, but tourists increase the number of people visiting the stores by a huge amount. Tourism helps in this situation because visitors are interested in the different kinds of traditional crafts and items that the native people have to offer.
