What would happen if high school students declare majors at such a young ages? There are many reasons on why I believe then should not declare majors. One problem is that one they get a major at 16 or 17 they are sort of stuck with that or the time they spent learning that is a waste of time? Also, teenagers are not usually thinking about the future so they might like one thing then when they get older they would realize it was a stupid choice. High school students should not have to declare students.
Also choosing a major in high school may lead to having a bad job because you are no longer interested in that field of work; if students take a course on that major they would be also missing out on a lot more interesting ideas and jobs which they missed out because they thought they wanted to be a doctor at age 16 then they wanted to be a lawyer ect; and as a result of that he would be weak in the field he wanted and strong in something he or she never wanted to be.
One example of a person who changed their mind with negative consequences is Kendall Eatman, an Englewood mother of six who was president of the Dwight Morrow student body before graduating in 1978. She said “I thought high school was about finding what you liked to do... I think it’s too early to be so rigid.” Kendall Etamn said that finding what you like to do at such a young age is a hard thing to do.
I disagree that high school should have to choose a major because they do not know what they want in
