The size of the federal government has been debated since before the foundation of the United States. While many would disagree with a totally powerful federal government akin to Stalinism, they would also oppose a neutered government like that under the Articles of Confederation: the Constitution’s Predecessor. In my personal opinion, many issues are best left to a central government, and ever more so with the development of technology making state governments increasingly obsolete. In fact, I favor a central global government, however we all know that that would be totally unfeasible for a myriad reasons. The most common argument in favor of a limited federal government is that, by giving more autonomy to states, its residents have more of a voice in their own governance.
