The potential that science possesses which allows it to explain the most complicated of phenomena with simplicity, has constantly captivated my attention. So far, I pursued science academically to find answers to my intriguing curiosity, and I choose to continue on the same path hereafter. The constant guidance of outstanding teachers throughout my schooling and college, lead me to appreciate how Biology is so intricately intertwined with the other streams. My parents being engineers having a strong IT background, and my impeccable interest in biology played a significant role in inclining me towards the interdisciplinary biomedical engineering stream. The vast scope and endless uses of applied biology bolstered my decision. In 2012, I almost lost my good friend to the lethal Dengue infection. This inspired me to learn and contribute to , keeping my prime interest on relevant research. I aim to devise a method or a material that can tackle such pathogens by understanding and modifying the surface interactions and efficiently use these biomaterials to block the infection. Extending the same idea, I intend to apply the regenerative nanomedicine technology to help better healing and functioning of damaged cells. These summed up the reasons for the choice of Bio-Medical Engineering as my specialization. I understand the requirements this program demands from a prospective applicant and I am positive that I satisfy the prerequisites. My projects and research corroborate the same.
Keeping up with the consistent growth in the Applied Biology field is a challenge in itself and my passion to contribute led me to take up a few projects during my under graduate course. During the summer of 2013, I worked at ******. The project dealt with computational approach as a first step to find potent drugs to tackle Dengue infection. According to Ayurveda, Neem helped cure Dengue and this formed the basis of my research. This project helped me discover and learn the usage and advantages of computational tools that enhance efficiency of modern research. I improved my self-learning capabilities as I individually carried forward the project. Being under the constant guidance of my professors here, imbibed in me, the professionalism required to nurture my growth. Presently, the research article ‘Possible Antiviral effects of Neem (Azadirachta indica) on Dengue virus’ is under review at Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
While I was yet discovering my interests and options in the field of Applied Biology, I took up a project at ******. The project, Congruent Networking dealt with an idea to consolidate a group of subjects and establish a network amongst them on the basis of their congruency. I worked alongside three seniors from the Computer Science department. Here, I learnt to adapt to a completely different environment and worked efficiently under my seniors. Though our idea did not make a significant progress, the qualities I developed here will ensure my competence in future projects.
In the summer of 2012, I worked on the project **** at *****. This internship gave me an opportunity to learn several basic laboratory techniques such as autoclaving, media preparation, streaking, subcuturing, polarimetry, refractometry and
