World War I was the first big war of the 20th century. It started with an assassination Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and involved more countries than any war before it. Many European countries made agreements with each other and fought for four years. Millions of Soldier/Civilian lives were lost because of the war.
USA Enters the War
At the beginning of World War I the USA declared that they would not get involved. But the America couldn’t stay neutral for long. Two major events forced America to get involved in the war and join the side of the Allies. Event number 1 the sinking of the Lusitania the Germans attacked American ships that were in route to Europe to bring supplies to the British. Event Number 2 America intercepts a letter from the Germans trying to persuade Mexico to start a war with the United States. Following the two events in became apparent for President Woodrow Wilson to declare war on Germany.
The Second Battle of the Marne
After four years of battling and German general Ludendorff believed that the too beating the Britain’s was in the north of France. To this the battled had to be won in Marne forcing the French from supporting the British troops. The Second Battle of the Marne started on July 15, 1918. The Allies sent out 34 divisions of squads that included nine American divisions. The Germans sent out a total of 52 divisions ready for the Allie attack.
