Final Essay
Introduction: The essay will consist of the key similarities and differences between the authors mentioned in the tables and my viewpoint for the respective point. And can we apply the same principles in today’s management practice. I will address the key points which make one author stand out from the rest of the authors. Although the aim of every author is the same i.e. to achieve better productivity and attain the final objective of the organization. The approach towards attaining the goal is different. These subtle differences bring a new meaning to the same concept. I will conclude with stating which approach will be the best for today’s management practice and will also state which author made the most impact on my opinions. As every author has a different perspective of the same highlighted point.
The philosophy of every author defines his main objective in brief. It defines the principle aim of the book and his work. Thus, it defines his thought process and how we can put these thoughts in a few sentences. According to my opinion Frederick Taylor was of the opinion of achieving maximum productivity for his organization and he introduced the application of science in management practice. But he considered workers to be menial and had low status for workers. Deming considered subtle differences between workers and considered knowledge as the principle driving factor. He believed in rewarding workers with intrinsic motivation rather than monetary pleasure. Barnard believed in bringing informal conversation in the work force as a means to make employee relations strong. Drucker emphasized on people as the main objective rather than commodities and considered management the building pillars of the organization. McGregor stated two versions of people one who are lazy and the ones who are motivated to work. Hammer and Champy considered professionals including workers the main element rather than management. Thus, according to me all authors have one similarity; they all believe that team achievement is more important than individual achievement. And in today’s management practice this point is truly valid as the goals are achieved in teams. Even there is a concept of a Board of Directors as opposed to a single man army. The main differences being that Frederick Taylor did not believe workers to be of the same status as opposed to the rest of the authors which did not distinguish between worker status. Hammer and Champy stand out as they did not emphasize more on management but professionals. In the case of business purpose the key similarity is that all authors believe in productivity improvement and attaining the final objective of the organization. While Drucker and Hammer and Champy emphasized more on customer satisfaction. Considering today’s age I believe customer satisfaction should be the primary goal of every organization, as they are the ones who make organization profitable. Frederick Taylor emphasized more on attaining profits, whereas Drucker emphasized more on developing employee skills. According to my opinion considering today’s management practice there should be more emphasis on customers rather than bosses and that employees are the most important asset of any organization. Organizations should concentrate on improving these aspects as opposed to just attaining profits which is a by-product of these elements. Thus, according to me Drucker has the most well-rounded organization purpose as opposed to rest of the authors. And today’s management should follow the same principles to make overall improvement in the organization strategy. There has been an internal thought conflict for Frederick Taylor as he has emphasized on the overall development of employees as opposed to the low status given to the authors by him. And considering today’s competitive business environment I believe organizations survival should be the ultimate aim of any organization.
