Vietnam – my country – has communist government. Its official name is The Socialist Repubic of Vietnam. Currently, Vietnam is led by President Truong Tan Sang, along with the Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the Communist leader Nguyen Phu Trong. Truong Tan Sang was elected as President in National Assembly in July 2011.
In Vietnam, people will vote for province and city leaders every five year. Those leaders will then elect the higher rank leader among themselves. The Viet Nam President of Socialist Republic, who has a lot of powers such as enacting law, constitution or being the head of Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council…, will be elect in the National Assembly every five year. He, the President, then will select the vice president, prime minister, and other officers with the acquiescence of the National Assembly. A delegate (if elected again) can only serve for two terms, each last for five years. After finishing his term, before a new president is being elected, the vice president will be a temporary replacement and do the president’s work. However, the role of the president is not constanly remain important through time. Because, sometime in the history of the country, the head of the Politburo can also have the right to decide for the president.
Until now, there are only a few female candidates working for the National Assemly. There hasn’t been any female taken part in important positions such as President, Prime Minister or Communist leader.
