“The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost is a piece of poetry that partakes in multiple signs of symbolism such as “ Two roads diverged in a yellow wood”(line 1) and “sorry I could not travel both”(line 2). These two sentences tell me that the narrator of the poem is stuck with a hard decision in life and that he has to choose one. Each road in this poem is a symbol of the narrator’s path or choice to his decision.
After the narrator sees the two roads he looks down to wear it bends into the under growth and finds that both of his choices looked equally fair. The only difference between the two roads is that one was untraveled by and not as many people took it. The connotation of the narrator looking down the two roads is he was observing his choices and trying to figure out which one was best suited for him. “It was grassy and wanted wear”(line2) is a symbol that the narrator figures out that one of his choices to his decision was less traveled by other people. The narrator decides that he takes one road and if he dislikes it he can come back, but he finally figures out that his choice may lead to other choices and he couldn’t return.

Once the poem starts to end the narrator states “I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - - I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference”. With a sigh of relief the narrator can finally say he made his choice and whether it was a bad or good decision, it was his decision and he has to live with it for the rest of his life. This poem leaves many questions to the reader on what the final meaning is. It also asks questions such, as was he proud, sad, victorious or relieved with his final decision? When the narrator puts in how he shall be telling this with a sigh I believe he is sighing out of relief and is happy with his
