Justin Glass The Two Super Powers of The World The Cold War was some of the most uncertain and dangerous years ever to occur in our world’s history. America and the Soviet Union were at the brink of war with nuclear weapons that would result in the destruction of our world. It was the East versus the West and it was Capitalism versus Communism. Both countries wanting to rid the world of the other. After World War II many events occurred that helped fuel the cold war and the blame can be placed partially on both countries. Russia and the United States have ideologies that differ greatly, which was a huge factor in The Cold War. The United States was a capitalist country and Russia was a communist country. For those who do not know, in simple Russia was an ally of Britain and the United States During the second world war, but this did not prevent tension from growing. During World War II, the Soviets and the Germans made a deal. This deal was called Nazi-Soviet Pact of 1939, and in this deal, the Soviet Union gave permission For Germany to take over Poland and Other parts of Western Europe. This angered the U.S. and Britain. Also, during the war, Britain and the U.S. waited to attack Germany, which angered the Soviets because they waited till three years after the Nazis attacked Russia. The Soviets lost around 25 or 30 million during the war and America and Britain combined lost around one million, so this also helped fuel the Soviet’s anger. Towards the end of the war, the U.S. and Britain cooperated with Stalin and his demands during the Yalta conference, solely because they need his help in the invasion of Japan. After the testing of the stomic bomb though, the U.S. no longer needed the Soviet’s help and the U.S. did not feel the need to agree with Soviet demands since they no longer needed their help. Even more events occurred after the war the increased the tensions between these two After the war America was now the most powerful; country in the world and Stalin did not like this. The U.S. had the atomic bomb, lost of wealth, and had not lost as many soldiers during the war. At first, there was the Baruch Plan, this would have ended the use of nuclear bombs and the arms race, but it didn’t work. The Soviet Union did not agree with this plan and if they would agree to it, the U.S. had to destroy all their nuclear arsenal. The U.S. did not do this and felt that they should be allowed to have nukes because they were the most responsible country. After this, Stalin set out to make their own atomic bomb and successfully made his own in four years because of soviet spy’s in America. America found out and began to make a hydrogen bomb which was much more powerful. The Soviets created those then. Then the countries began to make airplanes that could make it to the other country. Next the Soviet’s made a missile that could reach the U.S. and then the U.S. had missiles too. The United States and the Soviet Union had enough nuclear power to destroy the world, which only made tensions between these two countries grow even

& Munt 2008, citing Hall, 1992) The significant trigger for this current era of globalisation can be credited to events such as the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War. . For most of the twentieth century, the United States defined its foreign policy in relation to the Soviet Union, as the two countries battled each other for dominance during the Cold War. Although the two countries themselves never came to blows, they engaged in social, political, and economic competition around the globe. Following the collapses of the Soviet Union in 1989, many Americans began turning their attention toward domestic policy. This trend changed with the terrorist attacks of…
The world, as a whole, faces a critical decision point in history. This decision is not a conflict taken lightly. Ever since the World Wars, Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Cold War, nukes are still an ongoing experiment. Nowadays it seems that the nuclear crisis has only gotten worse. One of my favorite songs is “Everything Changes” by SOJA. It tackles the issues like war, poverty and selfishness. Sometimes we’re so unaware to things that are going on around the world and we don’t stop to think about how one day that could be us if we don’t take action now. Lines in the song like: “Sleeping at night without a murder and somebody tells you that's something they've never heard of” really explain the difference between our lives and the ones of citizens living in countries with terrorism…
