The Pearl Book Report
This book is titled The Pearl and was written by John Steinbeck and has 118 pages. The Pearl is a Parable Non-Fiction story meaning that it teaches a lesson, but did not actually happen. It was published by The Viking Press, Inc. in 1945 and was written in 1944 and 1945. The Pearl is about a man named Kino who finds a pearl and he thinks it will bring him good fortune but in the end the pearl brings him many troubles, more then he would have had without it. This book teaches the statement that money is the root of all evil.
This book takes place in a Mexican village on the coast named La Paz around the 1900s and the man it is about is named Kino and his wife and young son, Juana and Coyotito. The main Protagonist is Kino; a hardworking poor native who just wants to be free from the poop lifestyle he is living. Other main character are Kino’s wife Juana who is young and does not want to be poor either but thinks the pearl is evil, and Kino and Juana’s son Coyotito who gets dangerously ill at the beginning of the story. The Pearl is a Story about a man named Kino who lives in a coastal village in Mexico and works hard to support his small family consisting of his wife, Juana, and his son, Coyotito. In the beginning Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion gets very sick and needs a doctor. Kino and his family need more money than they have in order to pay the doctor for healing their son. Kino raises the money by finding a large pearl in the ocean that is worth the doctor’s fee and then some. Eventually Kino is being hunted down because other people want the massive pearl that he now owns. The small family gets ran out of
