In S.E Hinton’s Novel “The Outsiders” there are many characters that are classified as outsiders. Our main character Pony-Boy Curtis is an outsider he feels alienated, he feels like he is the only one who likes sunsets, enjoys poems and loves reading and movies. He also hates fighting and could never hurt anyone, unless he had to. This is not like any other Greaser .Greasers are tough, rough and mean. They aren’t rich and have very few material possessions. All Greasers love fighting and are all great friends. There are also people who don’t fit for example another character in the novel named Cherry Valance she is a Socs she isn’t the typical mean, elegant ,rude Socs she is different she is sweet and nice. She feels that sometimes she will be lying to her friends because if she actually talks about what she likes they will judge her and her reputation goes. Everyone had to keep their reputation up or else no one would like them they try to fit in but sometimes they just want to be themselves.
The greasers were poorer than the Socs or the Middle Class. They were wilder, too. When a Socs saw a greaser, they immediately thought dirty troublemaker. If you actually got to meet them most of them were nice, kind, caring people. They loved to hang out in gangs, but their kinds of gangs were a group of friends. Their gangs were like their families. The Greasers gangs were always there for them and cared about each other, they always had each other’s backs. “You take up for your buddies no matter what they do. When you’re a gang, you stick up for the members. If you don’t stick up for them, stick together, make like brothers, it isn’t a gang anymore. It’s a pack.” P33. Johnny Cade is another main character in the novel. Johnny is loved and cared for by many people besides his own parents; He doesn’t have any siblings and feels like he has no one. His parents never care what he is doing, where he is, even if he is dead they would rather they didn’t even have a child. They always beat him up and don’t care about him. Johnny is the most cared for in the group because of his parents and the beating he got by the Socs that one day everyone looks out and cares for him even more they know not to hurt him because they know the pain he is already in when he goes home. “He had a nervous, suspicious look in his eyes, and the beating he got form the Socs didn’t help. He was the gangs pet, everyone’s kid brother. His father was always beating him up and his mother ignored him,
