The main character of the Odyssey is Odysseus, he fought with other great heroes at Troy for ten years and he had problems getting home to his kingdom in Ithaca. He’s the husband of Penelope and the father of Telemachus, he is strong and courageous.
He is the goddess Athena’s favorite and she sends him an abundance of aid. At every area of his adventure, she was there to assist him by providing him with the tools he needed to survive or get through his turmoil’s.
Odysseus is the enemy Poseidon who kept destroying every part of his journey. Examples is by this quote, “But all the Gods pitied him except Poseidon; he remained relentlessly angry with God like Odysseus, until is return to his own country.” Book 1 lines 19-21.
Traits for Odysseus are leadership, knowledge and bravery. His quick knowledge helped him in some tough situations like when he escaped from the cave of the Cyclops. Another example of his bravery is when he hid the slaughter of the suitors by playing wedding music. Another valuable trait of his was his ability to convince his audience to do and believe whatever he wanted. As quoted, “Oh Cyclops! Would you feast on my companions? Puny, am I, in a cave mans hand? How do you like the beating that we gave you, you damned cannibal? Eater of guests under your roof! Zeus and the Gods have paid you!” Book 9, line 519-523.
