The Holocaust was a gruesome event in human history and caused millions of Jews and others to die as a result of a selfish man by the name of Hitler. There have been many books, movies, poems, and interviews based around the holocaust and the victims personal experience but none give a better, in depth example as the novel Night. In the novel Night by Marion Weisel, Eliezer struggles with his sense of identity through his experience in the concentration camps, losing his faith in god, and questioning human nature; thus bringing out the theme of one changing as a result of life experience.

Although Eliezer experienced many things during the holocaust nothing affected him more than the concentration camp, which were the source of his change to begin with. A collision found in the concentration camp that majorly affected him would be when they hang a child “ To hang a child in front of thousands of onlookers was not a small matter....All eyes were on the child. He was pale, almost calm, but he was biting his lips as he stood in the shadow of the gallows....'Long live liberty!' shouted the two men. But the boy was silent. 'Where is merciful God, where is He?' someone behind me was asking.” (Wiesel 64).
