MEDICAL DATABASE

Nurse and Doctor Databases provide evidence-based resources that support both parties streamline workflow and improve patient care. Keeping medical records in an electronic form can save a great deal of space. Instead of storing huge paper files on patients, all records are digital and stored on hard drives and/or in external data centers. This represents a small percentage of the space required to store physical records. In addition, although they do not make offices completely paper-free, electronic records do reduce the amount of paper needed by medical offices, hospitals, and insurance companies. Brad Stone, the author of an article that was in Newsweek Magazine called “Dangers of Social Network sites” speaks about how sharing information online can cause people to get into serious trouble. In Stone’s article, he takes about a sophomore at Fisher College in Boston named Cameron Walker, who was unhappy with a campus police guard, so he made a comment about him on the popular Fisher College Facebook page, which was seen by other officials that thought his words were threatening which ultimately got Walker expelled from the college. Are there Disadvantages in a Nurse and Doctor Database? Yes, there are some concerns that worry patients, for example, a few of the concerns are hackers attempting to access data illegally. Loss of public confidence in the confidential nature and last Jigsaw attacks - meaning that analysts uses different datasets to identify patients who’s names have been stripped from the data in order to target them. Alhough there is some disadvantages when it comes to Nurse and Doctor Databases there are so many more positive advantages that outweigh the negatives. With the limited times I have taken trips to a medical office of any sort, I have seen both systems where they have a Database, and others where they do not and do everything hand written with a patient file that is stored in a file cabinet, I don’t attend those types of offices often so can you imagine how hard it has been to find my file, and how many times they actually had to create a whole new file for me by leaving me the concern of what really happened with my medical history? It’s a very frustrating feeling to experience as a patient. When expericning offices that have a Database it’s more efficent to me and seemed easier on the front staff that informed the Nurse that I was in the waiting area. The Nurse informed the Doctor that I was in the patient exam room. All of this being done non-verbally which didn’t leave me to wonder if all the staff and other patients knew why I was there. Medical Databases increase the ability for all members of a health care team to coordinate patient care. This helps avoid unnecessary repetition of tests, prevents medicines that might interact
