By: Munachi Mbaekwe In the ruins of North America, soon lies the nation of Panem. A Capital surrounded by 12 outlying districts. Each district is responsible for something, like district 12 for example, handles coal and mining. All these districts are controlled by the Capitol, ruled by the harsh and cruel President Snow. The Capitol hosts the Hunger Games. The Capital makes a boy and a girl between the ages of 12 and 18 by lottery to participate in the annual hunger games as a punishment to the districts for rebelling At the 74th Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen volunteers as tribute when her little sister is reaped. Peeta Mallark, a longtime friend is also chosen as tribute. Katniss and Peeta are taken to the Capital and go for the opening ceremony. Panem loves them as they were covered in flames from head to toe. Peeta and Katniss then go to the training center to train and be evaluated. In their experience at the Capitol, they have an interview with Caesar Flickerman, where Katniss receives the nickname as the girl on fire and Peeta reveals his crush on Katniss. The fun is over when Peeta and Katniss are thrown into the games where they are faced with strokes of bad luck with the Careers, natural disasters and muttants. But there is hope when the rules bended stating that 2 tributes from the same district can win. Katniss and Peeta team up. Katniss finds and nurses Peeta back to health when she finds him almost
