The Hobbit Chapters 1-6
In the first part of the novel, Bilbo is very against going on this journey. Gandalf shows up on his doorstep after he has thirteen elves accompanying him. They tell Bilbo that he is to come with them to help steal the jewels of Thorin’s grandpa back from the dragon Smaug. Bilbo does not like going out, he likes staying at home. When trolls bombard the journeymen, Bilbo shows bravery when attempting to steal a money purse and also trying to help in the troll situation until Gandalf does.
