The Existence of God

Proof of Gods existence has always been a question I often ponder about. Almost everyone at some particular point in his or her life has challenged the existence of God. This may happen for a number of reasons. For example he or she might have been at a point in their life when their faith alone was just not enough for them to believe. Humans have a natural instinct to find reasons for events that can’t be explained. Whether or not God exists has risen to conflict and caused doubt all over the world. I believe in a higher power and I believe we were all created but the question still remains with who and how? Both of these questions have yet to be answered. This controversy did not start with me will not end with me nor am I the only one to have questioned it. The existence of God has created controversial issues and questions for as long as time itself. There are many arguments for and against the existence of God. To clarify this question, on a lot of minds all over the world, whether or not God exists I will explore atheism, the cosmological proof theory, and the necessity in proving his existence. Proof is usually necessary in Science. This occurs when an experiment is conducted and the evidence either proves or disproves the hypothesis. This is not the same case as in religion. Religion and God are one’s personal beliefs and given right, thanks to our founding fathers and the first amendment which according to Cornell University Law School is known as, “The First Amendment of the United States Constitution which protects the right to freedom of religion and freedom of expression from government interference.” As well as the first amendment we as Gods children were given free will and the brilliance of our individual brain and thoughts. Our beliefs are our own personal thoughts and should not be questioned by others. So I guess the necessity of proving his existence lies in the need of that individual. Personally I feel it is my belief and not everyone else’s. If I believe he exists then that is all the proof I should need and all the proof anyone else should need for I feel it in my heart. “The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw man to himself. Only in God will he find the truth and happiness he never stops searching for.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church #27) (Saint, Thomas, Aquinas 2010) It’s just like love in a sense. You cannot prove to others your love you can only show it by your actions. The action of walking by faith and not by sight is how we prove existence, by believing in him and praising his name.
However, it could not possibly be that simple no instead we have scientists that believe “extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.” (Frederick Henry Hedge 1865) Further stating that proof is a necessary action for scientists in order to believe in Gods existence. On the other hand, in a religious factor proof is provided by our existence. Referring back to Mosser’s (2010) cosmological and first cause theory he argues that God is first cause as he created all of us. He states, “The only thing that could qualify as first cause is God. Therefore God exists.” This argument is simple, God exists because we exist. Any two persons can argue the proof of God until the end of time as science is always coming up with new ways as to how man became and religion has the Bible, commonly known as the word of God believed to be written from men chosen from God himself. However, if you are a believer in God then you should not feel the need to explain his proof of existence. As said in the Bible, “we walk by faith not by sight.” (NKJV 2 Corinthians 5:7) How can you prove faith other than believing that God will lead us in a right direction? You cannot and will not be able to because the proof lies within the individual themselves. One can only desire to prove Gods existence if he believes in God. St.
